Joy, ...so many good memories!

My mum (Barbara Crofton) and Joy bonded instantly learning to play golf when I was about 5, My brothers and I bonded instantly with her sons Bruce and Derek, We used to walk from our house to their house many times a week, We also sailed with them, I crewed for Bruce or Peter (my brother) and Mike crewed for Derek on the little Dabchicks we sailed in the bay. I think our parents had no imagination or very little fear about our ability to survive and handle such incredible danger. Derek and Mike (both aged 11)nearly drowned during a buster, but Joy was absolutely sure they would be ok, THere she stood, very pregnant on the windy quayside, giving a running commentary of what was happening, my mum was imagining the very worst, but they were okay, I'm sure it was just her absolute positive thinking. She used to cook buckets of muscles during these sailing days, which the boys devoured with relish. Joy remained my mom's best friend to the end of her life, and I felt as if she was my "other mother" - She always had advice and helped if she could. She looked after my mom too, when she convalesced after her first operation for cancer. I loved Joy, and give thanks for her life. Love to Anne and Derek, and happy memories of a childhood with all three of Joy's beautiful children and of Len. Love from Jenny Crofton Bonsignore
