Zinkwazi and blue string bikinis

What a privilege it was to have spent so much of my early childhood with the Morrison family. Anne and I formed a bond in Grade 1, having birthdays 5 days apart, and 41 years later I can still recall all those special times I spent with Anne in the home of Len and Joy, and Bruce and Derek who were always somewhere in the background being so many years older than us! My favourite memory of Joy is in the beach cottage in Zinkwazi. Joy used to sew blue string bikinis for Anne and me, and we would play on the beach for hours in our designer swimming costumes! She was always sewing an outfit for one of us on her Bernina machine, and we were certainly the best dressed little girls on the beach. Both Len and Joy adored their laat-lammetjie, and I was very privileged to be a part of the greater love which Joy inspired in so many people during her life. Gail Gibbs (Featherstone)
