My Beloved Aunt Joy

My memories go back to the very beginning.I beleive I was at Joy and Len's wedding aged 6 weeks. My Dad was Len's brother. As a child I was amazed at Joy building a double storey dog kennel out of bricks and cement for the boxer Dempsey at the bottom and for the ginger cat Tiger at the top.I remember the many trips to Zinkwazi where our treat was to be allowed to eat the inside out of a hot loaf of bread on the way there. Then to entice me to eat (I was a bad eater)slices of bread were covered in condensed milk, hundreds and thousands or just sugar. As I grew up Joy just adopted my children as her grandchildren and introduced them to her homemade stories. We will never forget her getting into a local bus in Durban and travelling to Umtata via all the townships on the way buying bananas from local vendors out of the window just to spend time with us at Tshani on the Wild Coast. If she couldn't get mussels she collected money shells with my kids and turned them into a tasty treat. Joy,I will never forget the many breakfasts you created at Tshani while I had a sleep in.(Not often when you have 4 children) If all this was not enough you arrived in East London by bus when my beloved father had a cancer op.Joy you were a star.No wonder you are a legend for my family and I am proud to say that my youngest granddaughter has been named after you, little Eva Joy Webber.
